About eight years ago, I got the chance to spend several hours in the emergency room at the local hospital. My heart was going faster than a NASCAR racer and my blood pressure was borderline explosion. I was diagnosed with rapid heart rate, high blood pressure and just a point shy of Adult Onset Diabetes (Type 2). I told my doctor no pills or shots, what can I do. He said lose weight and eat right. I spent the better part of 31 years abusing my body. I quit drinking, smoking and changed my nutritional situation and, when I went back 3 months later, I was 76 pounds lighter, was walking 3 miles a day and my A1c was down from 6.9 to 5.7. That was just the start. I started going to the gym where I met my trainer/mentor and the end results about 3 years later was I had lost over 250 pounds, got off the blood pressure/heart medicine and my A1c was down to 5.0. I kept going to the gym and also started running. I did my 1st competitive race in 2015, 41 years after the last one. I finished 2nd in my age group in the Master's 1500m at the Kansas Sunflower State games, but that was just the beginning. I have since ran several 5K, 10K and half marathons. I did my 1st marathon in October, 2017 at the age of 60. My first trainer, Brianna Hartman, told me someday I might be a trainer. I laughed...Now I own UnderGround Fitness LLC. Just proves that if you put your mind to becoming healthy you can do it...That applies to anything you want to do
